20th Century - Choose Your Own Decade Project
Below you are the various categories of articles that are required for your project, as well as the advertisements to be included.
*Please note that these are required articles - if you wanted to add something else - say a musician, actor or someone/something else to your newspaper - PLEASE DO! That is the point of this project - for you to find something that interests you, research it, write about it, and be creative with it.

Article Categories:Local Events – City of Galveston and/or Galveston County
Governors and Mayors (I recommend a chart showing political party, years of service, anything else you think is important) ALREADY COMPLETED IN CLASS Sports – maximum of 2 articles Presidential Actions – what was something significant that a president had to deal with during the decade. Major Events - Wars that the U.S. was in, issues that arose during the decade that were "major" or "significant" Presidential Elections – cover any elections that came up during the decade, who were the candidates, what were the outcomes A summary article of what the decade was all about |
Advertisements (minimum of 3):Women’s fashion
Men’s fashion Automobile Food product – eat or drink Military *other area that you come up with - these are areas that would be found in any decade |
Friday - May 17th - Presidential Actions and Sports
Both of these articles are due today. Presidential Actions article shall consist of something major that a president from your selected decade dealt with during his administration. Sports is fairly open to what you want to write about. Did your favorite team win a championship? Did a famous sports figure retire? You may do more than one sports article.
Major Events Article - Thursday May 16th - Due in Class
The major event for your article should be about something that happened either socially, politically, economically, or as many times is the case in major events, covers all three areas. By utilizing the reference books in the classroom, your textbooks, some careful searching on the web and of course your wonderful history teacher, you will be able to find at least one "major" event from the decade.
Presidential Elections - Article due from Monday's Class (5/13/13)
1. Who were the presidents during your chosen decade?
2. Who did they run against, were they close elections?
3. What were the platforms they ran on? (What did they say they would do if they were elected?)
